VOLUNTEER TO PROVIDE A MEAL
or
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE A MEAL
Volunteer guide
The purpose of Meals from the Heart is to provide meals and loving support to our fellow Emmanuel Members when an individual or family experiences a particular hardship or event. Once you have signed up to be a volunteer, you will be contacted when we have someone in need of meals in your area. This page will take you through what that process looks like.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact:
Melinda Claucherty @(248) 930-8842 or
Using the Meal Train website
-
When there is fellow ELC member in need, you will receive a link that will take you to the meal train page for that individual or family.
-
The page will include contact information, directions, and a preferred time for drop-off.
-
Once you are on the page you will find a list of available dates as below:
-
Click the green ‘volunteer for this’ button for whatever date works for you. You are welcome to sign up for multiple days if your schedule allows.
-
Once you select a date, you will be taken to a page to fill out your name and the meal you plan to bring.
-
You may put ‘to be determined’. If you don’t know right away what you will be providing, please update the calendar as soon as you decide.
-
When you have entered in your information you will see a confirmation page. Your name will also appear on the calendar next to the date you signed up for.
Please note: The blue ‘make changes’ button can be used to update any information you would like to share with the individual or family.
Meals
-
Every meal provided should include a main dish; a salad, fruit, or vegetable; and a dessert.
-
Be sure to check the individual or family’s page for any allergies, restrictions, likes and dislikes. Please do your best to cater to their needs.
-
We also ask that you include any condiments or extras that may go along with the meal.
-
Please put all food in disposable containers, so nothing needs to be returned (some may be available at church if needed)
-
Meals do not need to be home cooked; convenience foods (i.e., pre-cooked lasagnas, rotisserie chickens, etc.), carry outs, and gift cards to restaurants that offer take-out or delivery are welcome!
Delivery
-
Meals can be dropped off ahead of time to be cooked, reheated later or right at dinner time.
-
Please, contact recipients ahead of time (preferably the day before) to confirm directions and arrival time.
-
Before you go, pray that the meal will be a blessing for the individual or family.
-
Please be sensitive to the individual or family’s needs when you drop off the food.
-
Offer to stay and visit. They may want you to stick around to chat briefly but if you think not, it’s perfectly acceptable to drop off the meal and get going.
